03 / Common questions

FAQs about tax
preparation services.

A few things to know before the first conversation. Have another question? Contact us.

01 Do you prepare taxes for both individuals and small businesses?

Yes. We prepare individual returns for individuals, families, and self-employed professionals—from a straightforward 1040 to returns with rental income, investments, or multiple states—as well as small business returns for sole proprietors, partnerships, and S corporations. If you have a few unfiled years to catch up on, we can help with those too.

02 What do you need from me to get started?

Start with the client questionnaire, then we’ll have a first conversation about your situation. Before we file, you’ll share your prior-year returns, income documents (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s), and records for the deductions and credits that apply to you—uploaded securely. We’ll give you a checklist built around your situation, and we agree on the scope and fees before any work begins.

03 Do you offer more than tax preparation?

Yes. Alongside preparation we offer bookkeeping and reporting to keep your books current through the year, and small business advisory for cash flow, payroll questions, and the decisions in between. Tax preparation tends to go more smoothly when it sits next to year-round planning rather than a once-a-year scramble.

04 Can you help me plan ahead, not just file?

That’s a core part of the work. We review your situation before year-end so filing holds no surprises, and look ahead to estimated payments, retirement contributions, entity elections, and the timing of income and expenses—so decisions get made while there’s still time to act on them.

05 I’m starting or restructuring a business—can you advise on entity choice?

Yes. We’ll talk through sole proprietorship, LLC, S corporation, and partnership options in plain language—what each one means for your taxes, your paperwork, and your payroll—and set up a bookkeeping approach that fits the structure you choose.

06 What if I’ve fallen behind or received a letter from the IRS?

We can help you catch up on unfiled years and respond to IRS or state notices—reviewing what’s actually being asked, preparing the response, and setting up a payment plan if one is needed. Bring the letter to the first conversation so we can look at it together.

07 Do you work with specific industries?

We work with individuals, self-employed professionals, and small businesses across a range of fields—including real estate, healthcare, the trades and construction, and retail. Whatever the industry, your situation comes first.

Still wondering about something specific? Ask us directly—that’s what the first conversation is for.
